Hong Kong Bus Days
Sunday 4th February 2024 and Sunday 11th February 2024
The Sydney Bus Museum continues its annual Hong Kong Bus Day event in 2024 during the Lunar New Year featuring our popular Hong Kong buses, operating the CBD Service from the Museum to the Queen Victoria Building.
The Historic HK Buses
MERCEDES 0305 KMB ME30
ME30 was delivered to Kowloon Motor Buses (KMB) in 1985, and was one of the first buses delivered to a franchise operator after import restrictions limiting companies to only Commonwealth suppliers were lifted. It and 40 others were used on high demand routes, and later on routes to Yuen Long due to their high horsepower.
Withdrawn in 2002, ME30 was purchased by an Australian enthusiast and shipped over in 2009, being donated to the SBM in 2020.

MCW Metrobus CMB ML1
ML1 was the first tri-axle double decker bus delivered to Hong Kong in 1982. Built by Metro-Cammell Weymann (MCW) in the UK, who would supply China Motor Buses (CMB) with 84 of these 12 metre long "Super-Metrobuses" between 1982 and 1988.
These buses were intended to help deal with the rising population of Hong Kong, transporting people on cross harbour tunnel services linking Hong Kong with the Kowloon Peninsula.

Withdrawn in 2000, it was purchased by Ensignbus UK, who shipped ML1 to Sydney for charter work for the 2000 Olympics. In 2005, ML1 was purchased for restoration and donated in 2018.

LEYLAND OLYMPIAN KMB BL66
BL66 was delivered to KMB in 1985, as part of an order for 123 two-axle Olympians. Primarily used on the Route 68, operating from Tsuen Wan MTR to Teun Mun.
Withdrawn from service in 2002, it was purchased and shipped to Australia along with ME30.

BL66 is owned privately, and we are grateful for its owner's kindness in making it available for this event.

Service Changes: FEB 4 & 11
Due to protest action in the CBD area, our Hong Kong buses have been diverted to operate to North Sydney Station.
​
Our York Street bus stop will no longer be serviced from 2.00pm, however visitors will be able to hop on and off the buses at North Sydney Station.
The timetable remains unchanged.

How to Ride the HK Buses
BY BUS

Catch the HK Buses from the City! A half hourly service runs from the Queen Victoria Building, York Street, Stand D.
AMMENDMENT - from 2.00pm Hong Kong buses will service North Sydney Station, Stand D due to CBD protest action. Passengers can hop on and off the bus at North Sydney also.

FROM THE MUSEUM
​
Make your own way to the Museum in Leichhardt. Parking is available at the top of William Street, a minute's walk from the Museum.
​
Route 437 and 440 buses operate from the City, and stop at the Pioneers Memorial Park, just down the road.

Tickets can be purchased at the Museum entrance when you arrive!
